June 1962Services Held for Howard Spencer
Funeral services were held Monday, June 18, for Howard Mekemson Spencer, a resident of Earlham for the past 17 years. Howard passed away suddenly Thursday evening at the age of 56 years.
Services were held at the Presbyterian church in Earlham at 3:00 p.m. Monday, June 18. Rev. H. J. Noeling officiated with Rev. Delbert Welty assisting. Music was furnished by Mrs. Earl Schalkle.
Casket bearers were Marion Compton, Wallace Jackson, E. G. Tough, Jim Welch, Russell Ralston and Orla DeVault. Mrs. Don Hardin, Mrs. Ed Tough and Mrs. Loyal Werts assisted with the flowers.
He spent his early life on a farm at Pitzer, graduating from Earlham high school in 1925. For the past 15 years he was employed by Madison County operating a road patrol in Jackson township.
Howard was a son of Harvey and Idaletta Spencer, who preceded him in death, as did his brother William.
He is survived by his wife Myra and sons Larry and Lee; six brothers: Frank of Chula Vista, California; Dr. J. A., Woodward; Lloyd, Iowa City; Miron of Clinton; Herbert of Adel; Tom of Oak Grove, Missouri; and three sisters: Mrs. Lois Mills of Flint, Michigan; Mrs. Dorothy Stotts of Wichita, Kansas and Mrs. Mary Beeson of Earlham.
