Mrs. Jacob Pettit Dies

Mrs. Jacob Pettit, 40, who lived southwest of Peru died Monday morning following a week’s illness. Mrs. Pettit was the former Miss Villa Iiams, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Iiams.

Her husband and children survive, a son Raymond died about a year ago.

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at two o’clock in Peru. Burial was made in the Peru cemetery.

Peru Happenings

Mr. and Mrs. Walker Gibbons and son Melvin of Kress, Texas came to attend the funeral of her sister, Mrs. Jake Pettit, which was held at the M. E. church Wednesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Howard J. Machlan. Burial was made in the Peru cemetery. The pallbearers were her uncles, the six Kirk brothers.

Mr. and Mrs. Walker Gibbons and son left for their home in Texas being called here on account of the death of Mrs. Gibbons sister, the late Mrs. Jake Pettit.

Coordinator's note: Her Death Certificate shows her name to be "Vella Fern". In the first census she was in (1900), her name was "Arvilla" but thereafter, all vital records show "Vella".
