Robert L. Nellis Services Held

Last Rites for Earlham Man, 80, Who Passed Away Aug. 30 Were Saturday

Funeral services for Mr. R. L. Nellis, who passed away at his home here August 30 after a long illness, were held in the Earlham Friends Church Saturday afternoon. Rev. H. Millard Jones, pastor, officiated, assisted by Rev. W. Feay of the Church of Christ. Interment was made at Earlham Cemetery.

Robert L. Nellis was born near Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, June 2, 1854, and passed away at his home in Earlham August 30, 1934, at the age of 80 years, 2 months and 28 days.

He came with his parents to Iowa about 1858 and located in Cedar County. In 1879 he was united in marriage to Julia Ann Nolte in Muscatine County.

They moved to a farm in Penn Township, Madison County, in 1897, where he resided most of the time until moving to Earlham about 15 years ago.

He was converted in youth and united with the Methodist Church. On moving to Earlham he and his wife united with the Friends Church. He was faithful in attendance as long as his health permitted and maintained his interest in the church unto the end.

After being confined to his bed for nearly two years, he quietly passed away. He was very patient in his suffering and thoughtful of those who cared for him.

His companion passed away in January of this year.

He leaves to mourn his passing, five sons with their families: Clinton L., of Lawrence, Kansas; Ward V., of Earlham; Roy C., of Des Moines; Earl E., of Woodward; Merl E., of Earlham. Two sisters: Mrs. Jessie Wyman, of Canton, Kansas, and Mrs. Elizabeth McCarty, of McPherson, Kansas also survive. Also surviving are twelve grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
