Minnie Zelliot was born on a farm near Earlham, Iowa, the daughter of Perry Macy Hadley and Evaline Allen Hadley. She graduated from Penn College in 1910 and much later, in 1935, earned a master’s degree from the University of Denver. She was married to Ernest A. Zelliot, who died in 1956. To children born to them died in infancy, two daughters survive.

She was a member of First Friends Meeting in Des Moines, and taught in the Sunday School there for many years. She served on the Yearly Meeting Peace and Service Committee from 1938 until her death, and on the Five Years Meeting Peace and Social Concerns Board from 1945 to 1950. She was deeply concerned that the Society of Friends be faithful to its peace testimony, and she supported the American Friends Service Committee through the years. Another of her interests was the ecumenical movement, and she served as President of the Des Moines Council of Church Women from 1944 to 1946. Throughout her life she was a devoted student of the Bible. She was a member of the Executive Committee of the United Society of Friends Women from 1943 to 1956.

Surviving are two daughters, Carolyn Piburn, now in Des Moines on furlough from medical missionary work in Southern Rhodesia, and Eleanor Zelliot of Des Moines; four grandchildren; and one sister, Cora Hadley Applegate of Earlham, Iowa.

Services were conducted by Richard Newby of Muncie, Indiana, Orlando Dick and Donald Ogren of Des Moines, and Willard Reynolds of Earlham. Interment was at Earlham, Iowa. A memorial in the name of Minnie Zelliot has been established at the American Friends Service Committee in Des Moines.
