DOROTHA M. RADKE

Dortha M. Shannon Radke, 90, passed away on Wednesday, September 28, 2011. Services will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1195 Prairieview Ave. in Van Meter on Monday, October 3, 2011 at 11 a.m. Family will greet friends from 9 to 11 a.m. before the service.

Born May 30, 1921 to Dell and Gladys (Choate) Shannon in Union County, Iowa, Dortha graduated from Adel High School where she played basketball. She met and married Martin Radke on March 11, 1940. Dortha also enjoyed nature, gardening and her flowers. She and her husband, Martin enjoyed square dancing and she was quite the yodeler. After her children were grown, Dortha worked as a nurse’s aide for the Greater Community Hospital in Creston.

She will be greatly missed by her children, Margaret Good-Day, Larry (Karen) Radke, Shirley Jenson, James (Sandi) Radke, Judith (Earl) Pollard; her siblings, Dan (Alice) Shannon, Charles (Eva Mae) Shannon, Iris (Ed) Smith, Don (Donna) Shannon, Mary Drury and Dean (Carol) Shannon; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 50 years, Martin; her sons, Marlin and Dean; and her grandson Duane; and sister, Eileen Everling.
