Monaghan Rites at Mount Ayr

John (Jack) Monaghan, 52, of Mt. Ayr, a former Winterset resident, died last Thursday, Nov. 20, at the Mt. Ayr Hotel, where he made his home.

He was a former rural mail carrier at Mt. Ayr.

Funeral services for Mr. Monaghan were held last Saturday from St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Mt. Ayr, with Rev. Fr. Joseph McConnell officiating. Burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery at Mt. Ayr, with military rites by the local American Legion post.

John Monaghan was born on a farm near Winterset, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Monaghan. He moved to the Mt. Ayr area about 30 years ago.

Mr. Monaghan is survived by his widow, Betty; two sons, Barry Monaghan of Jessup and Allyn Monaghan of Adair; a sister, Mrs. Gertrude Holland of Norwalk, Calif.; and three brothers, Thomas Monaghan, of New Orleans, La., Robert Monaghan of Des Moines and Bill Monaghan of Mount Ayr.
