A resident of Madison County for 39 years and a member of the Macksburg community for the past 13 years, Hazel Gwendolyn Butcher, died Friday, October 10, 1975 at Madison Manor North Nursing Home in Winterset. She was 87 years old.
Mrs. Butcher was born in Raymond, Nebraska on January 22, 1888, the daughter of Benjamin Franklin Sutherlin and Lucille Ferguson Sutherlin. She was married to William Edward Butcher March 24, 1903 in Decatur County, Iowa.
Mrs. Butcher was a housewife during her life and affiliated with the Methodist Church. Her husband preceded her in death February 15, 1961. Also deceased are her parents, three sons, Edward, Artie and Wayne and one brother, Roy Sutherlin.
Surviving Mrs. Butcher are five sons and three daughters. They are: Vernon Butcher, Davis City, Ia.; Fred Butcher, Little Sioux, Ia.; Raymond Butcher, Alamogordo, New Mexico; Frank Butcher, Indianola, Ia.; Bill Butcher, Orient, Ia., Mrs. Raymond (Betty) Kiddoo, Winterset; Mrs. Don (Norma) Garrett, Creston, Ia., and Donna Pettit, Prole, Ia.
Also surviving are 41 grandchildren, 82 great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren and one sister, Cecil Miller of Wellman, Iowa.
Funeral services for Hazel Butcher were conducted at 2 p.m., Monday, October 13, 1975 from the Macksburg Methodist Church with the Rev. Willis Grant officiating. Burial was made at Moon Cemetery, Macksburg.
