Richard Ellsworth Lyons was born in Laceyville, Harrison county, Ohio, June 13, 1863 and died in Des Moines June 16, 1919 at the age of 56 years and 3 days. He moved to Madison county, Iowa with his parents when he was sixteen years of age, and with the exception of five years when he lived near Iowa City, he has lived near Truro, Madison county, Iowa.
He was united in marriage to Mary E. Holmes December 24th, 1890. To this union five children were born, of these one, Mrs. Maude Kale preceded him to the better land, August 4th 1917. The other four are Mrs. Merle Lawrence of New Virginia and Blanche, Jessie and Flossie who are in the home with the mother.
He united with the Presbyterian church when at Iowa City but on returning to Madison county he united with the Ohio M.E. church of which he has ever since remained a faithful member.
He was and affectionate husband, a tender loving father, dearly loved by his children and will be greatly missed by them. He leaves to mourn his loss a wife, four daughters, four brothers, one sister and four grandchildren, besides many other relatives and friends who will greatly miss him.
Funeral services were held from the Methodist church at Truro on Wednesday, June 18th at 11 o'clock, conducted by Rev. C. H. Corkill. The remains were laid to rest in the Young cemetery to await the resurrection.
