Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. this Thursday, July 31, from St. Ambrose Cathedral in Des Moines for Catherine Tiernan, a native of northeast Madison County.
Miss Tiernan died July 28 at her home in Des Moines. She was 58 years of age.
A daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James T. Tiernan, she was born in Lee township on Nov. 14, 1916.
She attended Madison County schools, and for the past 30 years has resided in Des Moines.
She is survived by four brothers, John of Winterset, James of San Diego, Calif., Giles of Decorah, Iowa and Francis of Ephriam, Utah.
A rosary for Miss Tiernan will be recited this Wednesday evening at the Caldwell-Brien Funeral Home in Des Moines. Burial will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery of the Lee township Irish settlement.

Catherine Tiernan, a former resident of Lee Township, died at her home at 1229 Seventh Street in Des Moines on Monday, July 28, 1975. She was 58 years of age.
Miss Tiernan was the daughter of James and Catherine Waldron Tiernan, born at their farm home in Lee Township on November 15, 1916. Her early years were spent in care for her father and following his death she began employment at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines. She was employed there at the time of her death.
Surviving Miss Tiernan are four brothers: John of Winterset; James of San Diego, California; Giles of Decorah; and Francis Xavier of Seattle, Washington. Her parents and two sisters, Ellen and Rose preceded her in death. Miss Tiernan’s grandfather was John Tiernan, a pioneer settler of Crawford Township in Madison County.
Funeral services for Catherine Tiernan were held at St. Ambrose Cathedral in Des Moines. Burial was made at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Lee Township.
