Dr. Tate is Buried Here

Dr. John M. Tate, former Winterset resident, died Monday, July 7th in West Union, Iowa where he had been a chiropractor for 50 years.

He was born in Winterset on January 6, 1889, the son of John and Helen Maltby Tate. His father operated a hardware store on the south side of the square, where the Breeding Hardware is now located. He resided in Winterset until 1926 when he moved to West Union.

He was a member of the Methodist Church there and was secretary of the Masonic Lodge for a number of years.

Mr. Tate is survived by one brother and three sisters, Dean C. Tate and Miss Laura Tate and Mrs. Gertrude McKinney, all of Yucapa, California and Mrs. Mabel Myer of San Marcus, California.

Funeral services for Mr. Tate were held Wednesday, July 9 at 11:00 a.m. at the Burnham Woods Funeral home in West Union. Graveside services were conducted at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, July 12th by the Rev. Paul Bousfield in the Winterset cemetery.

Mr. and Mrs. Wyman Myer of San Marcos, California, who are spending the summer in Iowa City with a brother, attended the services in West Union and accompanied the remains here.
