Lester Janes, 79, of Winterset, died this Tuesday morning May 20th, at Madison County Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services for Mr. Janes will be held Friday, May 23, at 1:30 p.m. from the Collins Funeral Home. Burial will be in Union Chapel cemetery south of Patterson.

Lester T. Janes, a longtime Madison County resident and retired farmer, died at the Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset last Tuesday, May 20. He was 79 years of age.
The son of Thomas and Eletha Brown Janes, he was born at Norwalk on March 27, 1896. Mr. Janes was married to Clarissa May Matthews at Norwalk in September of 1919.
A resident of this county for 75 years, Mr. Janes was a retired farmer who moved to Winterset in 1972. He was a veteran of World War I, and a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Mr. Janes is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Dale Hall of Des Moines, Mrs. Claude Clear of Winterset and Mrs. Lee Cox of Winterset, and by two sons, Tom Janes and Bill Janes, both of Jefferson. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, a sister, Mrs. Clyde Beard of Winterset, and a brother, Hase Janes of Indianola.
Preceding Mr. Janes in death were his wife, two sons, his parents, three sisters and two brothers.
Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, May 23, at the Collins Funeral Home of Winterset, with the Rev. Eldon Ringle officiating. Burial with military graveside services by Winterset’s Green-Rogers Post 184 of the American Legion, was in the Union Chapel Cemetery.
