Rites Held for Pearl Morris

Funeral services were held this Wednesday morning for Margaret Pearl Morris, a former school teacher and longtime Madison County resident. Mrs. Morris died at her home in Winterset Sunday, May 25, at the age of 87.

Mrs. Morris was born in Adair County on October 13, 1887, the daughter of John B. and Barbara Drake Sawyer. She was married to Sydney H. Morris at Winterset on July 21, 1920.

After attending Simpson College for one term, Mrs. Morris taught in several rural schools of Adair and Madison Counties for 12 years. She was a member of the W.S.C.S. at Webster Methodist Church, where she was a church member, and she also belonged to the Webster Township Garden Club and Farm Bureau Women.

Mrs. Morris had been a member of the First United Methodist Church of Winterset for the past nine years.

Survivors include her husband, Sydney, of Winterset, as well as one son, George Morris of Indianola, and two daughters: Margaret L. Clark of Davenport and Barbara Rollins of Webster City. Other survivors include five grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Mabel Hollen of Winterset.

Mrs. Morris was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and two sisters.

Services were held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 28, at the First United Methodist Church in Winterset, with the Rev. Paul Bousfield officiating. Burial was made in the Winterset Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the church.
