Funeral services for Julius Jensen, long-time Jefferson township farmer, were held Sunday, May 4, from Trinity Lutheran Church, south of Van Meter. Pastor E. A. Breiholz officiated.
Julius George Jensen, son of Ferdinand and Elizabeth (Westphal) Jensen, was born near Van Meter on July 9, 1887. He died at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines on May 1, 1975, at the age of 87 years.
On August 28, 1887, he was baptized in Trinity Lutheran Church, Jefferson township, Madison County. He renewed his baptismal vow with confirmation and became a member of Trinity Congregation, serving as church secretary 24 years and elder six years.
He spent his life farming in the area south of Van Meter until in later years he retired and moved to the town of Van Meter.
On January 24, 1917, he was united in marriage to Marie Thomsen. They were parents of one son Harold of Van Meter and one daughter, Mrs. Marjorie Cade of DeSoto.
Besides his wife, Marie, and his children, he leaves five grandchildren, also one brother, Herman of DeSoto, and three sisters, Mrs. Clara Prohaska, Denver, Colorado, Mrs. Alma Duffy, Los Angeles, California, and Mrs. Martha Frutig, Cedar Rapids, Iowa. His parents and two brothers, William and Arthur, preceded him in death.
Burial was in the Lutheran cemetery.
