Rites Held for Former Resident

Nellie Mae Jeffryes, a former Madison County resident, died at her residence in Des Moines last Tuesday, March 4. She was 80 years of age.

Mrs. Jeffryes was born at Creston on February 14, 1895, the daughter of Theodore and Anna Powell. She was married to Arthur F. Jeffryes at Creston on January 10, 1914.

Mrs. Jeffryes lived in Madison County for some time, until moving from the county in 1943.

Survivors include six daughters: Mrs. Mary Johnson of Redding, California, Mrs. Lenita Goodman of Murray, Mrs. Geraldine Shaw of Charlotte, North Carolina, Mrs. Dorothy Roberts of Dacono, Colorado and Mrs. Betty Parks and Mrs. Rose Fleming, both of Des Moines; as well as one son, Lloyd Jeffryes of Omaha, Nebraska.

Also surviving are 14 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and one sister, Mrs. Florence Van Syoc of Des Moines.

Mrs. Jeffryes was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur, in 1973, and by her parents, two daughters, two sons and three brothers.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 7 at the Collins Funeral Home in Winterset, with the Rev. Bob Harwell officiating. Burial was in the Winterset Cemetery.
