Funeral services were held last Sunday for Truman Johnston, 89, of St. Charles. Mr. Johnston died at the Madison Manor North in Winterset last Thursday, February 27.
Truman Johnston was born at St. Charles on August 24, 1885, the son of Samuel F. and Martisha Phipps Johnston. He was educated in the Madison county schools, and married Ruth E. Leggett on June 20, 1915.
Mr. Johnston spent his entire lifetime in Madison County. He was employed as a farmer, and worked as a carpenter and painter since 1944.
Affiliated with the United Methodist Church, he was also a member of the Masonic Lodge A.F. & A.M. at St. Charles, and of the St. Charles Lions Club.
Survivors include one brother, Raymond, of St. Charles and 16 nieces and nephews.
Mr. Johnston was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, six sisters and two brothers.
Services were held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, March 2, at the United Methodist Church in St. Charles, with the Rev. Paul Bousfield of Winterset officiating. Burial was in the St. Charles cemetery.
