County Native Dies in New York

Mrs. Jacques Masson, a native of Madison County, died at her home in Garden City Park, Long Island, New York on Wednesday, March 5.

Magdaline (Madge) Morrissey was born in Winterset, October 11, 1918, the youngest child of Roger F. and Ella Tiernan Morrissey.

Madge attended the Winterset schools and continued her education at the University of Iowa, Iowa City, graduating in 1942.

She was married at Ogden, Utah, to Jacques Masson of Westchester, New York, February 3, 1945, and moved to Garden City Park, Long Island, where she lived until her death.

Survivors include her husband, a son Robert, and two daughters, Jacqueline and Suzanne; one grandchild; three sisters, Elizabeth Nanos, Chicago, Adorine Smith, Davenport, and Mary Morrissey of Moline, Illinois; two brothers, Roger of Los Angeles and John of Davenport. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Mrs. Masson has several cousins living in Winterset: Bernard, Henry and James Morrissey; Mrs. Reece Bridenstine; John Tiernan, and Mrs. Francis Hochstetler of Dexter; and Mrs. Maurice Herrick of Indianola. She is a descendant of John Ryan and John Tiernan, two of the earliest settlers in Crawford Township, both arriving in the Irish Settlement in the mid-nineteenth century.

Memorial may be made to the local Cancer Society or to St. Joseph’s Church in Winterset.
