Death of George Gibson

Another well-known figure in Madison county passed away on December 29, with the death of George D. Gibson of Winterset. Although he had been in declining health for a number of years, his death came suddenly Sunday. He was 77 years old.

Mr. Gibson was the son of John and Clarinda Gibson, and was born near West Liberty on February 18, 1858. He grew to manhood in that community.

In 1850 he was married to Susan Barnes and they were the parents of six children: Harry and Elsie who died in infancy, Ralph Gibson, Mrs. Nell Knight, Mrs. Blanche Gilbreach, and Mrs. Clarinda Parkins, all of Winterset.

The family resided in eastern Iowa until 1897, when they moved to Madison county, locating first near Truro and later coming to Winterset. He was engaged in the real estate business.

While in West Liberty he united with the Methodist Protestant church and in Winterset he transferred to the Methodist church here.

Besides his widow and four children, he is survived by six grandchildren; three brothers, C. P. Gibson and P. N. Gibson of West Liberty, and J. P. Gibson of Sioux City; two sisters, Mrs. Lou Chesebro of West Liberty and Mrs. Pamelia Hollingsworth of Los Angeles, Calif.

Funeral services were held from the Methodist church Tuesday, conducted by the Rev. M. R. Talley. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
