Grandma Silverthorn of Webster Township Dead. Resident of Iowa for 57 Years.

Anna Mary Clendenen, daughter of John and Mary Clendenen, was born near Greenville, Lancaster county, Pennsylvania, July 14, 1823. She was the eldest of a family of nine children of whom three are living: a sister, Mrs. Haba Buker, a brother, Thomas Clendenen of California, and a sister, Mrs. Clark Miller of Muscatine, Iowa.

She was married to Richard S. Silverthorn in June, 1844. Of this union were born eight children, five of whom are still living: Oscar Silverthorn of Grand River township, Adair county, Iowa, Mrs. Manda Iler, Mrs. Olive Wilson, O. D. Silvethorne and Ellis Silverthorne, all of Hebron, Iowa. There are 22 grand children and 11 great grand children, six of the grandsons acted as pall bearers.

She was a noble, virtuous woman, a good, dutiful, ever faithful wife and mother and took no greater pleasure than caring for the home and children. Her husband departed this life 40 years ago last May. She and her children came to Madison county from Muscatine county, Iowa, in the spring of 1870, and has resided her ever since.

In her younger days, she became a christian and since joined the Methodist church at Wilson Chapel in 1895. On the 4th day of April, 1910, she had the sad misfortune to fall and break her hip but has born her affliction with wonderful patience and little complaining until Sunday at 12 o'clock, she departed this life. Fifty-eight years ago today, her daughter, Dora, was born.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Dec. 13th at Hill of Zion church in Adair county, conducted by Rev. I. N. Woodward of Indianola, assisted by Rev. Adams and Rev. Millholland, and interment made at Hill of Zion cemetery.
