August 1930Death of Mrs. Sarah Dryden
Sarah Foresman, was born at Churchill, Ohio, June 15, 1840 and passed away at her home in Ravenwood, Mo., August 26, 1930, at the age of 90 years, 2 months and 11 days, following a long protracted illness.
At the age of 18, with her parents, Samuel and Rebecca Foresman, she came to Missouri, but after a short time they moved to near Winterset, Madison Co., Iowa.
Here on December 30, 1861, she was united in marriage to Isaac Warden. To this union were born three children, Z. A. Warden, Ravenwood; Mrs. A. G. Bently, Excelsior Springs, and E. S. Warden, Des Moines, Iowa. Isaac Warden departed this life Nov. 5, 1871.
On Dec. 31, 1874 she was married to J. A. Dryden. To this union one child, Myrtle R. Wygal, was born. In 1881, Mr. and Mrs. Dryden with their family moved to Nodaway county, and since that time the deceased has resided near and in Ravenwood. Mr. Dryden passed away March 7, 1890.
The deceased was converted and joined the Methodist church at the age of 13 years, and had lived a consistent christian life through her remaining years. She was, as long as health permitted, one of the church's most faithful and ardent workers in all its activities. For many years she was known as one of the Sunday school's best teachers and in later years, one of its best pupils, noted for having reported the largest number of chapters read during the week, many time.
As a companion and mother she was loving and true, never tiring in doing the things for their comfort and welfare, and always weighed a problem carefully before expressing herself. She was energetic and ambitious and only when infirmities overcame her did she become reconciled to be cared for, which was all practically done by her devoted children.
At the advanced age of 91 years, she retained her splended mental faculties, her sight and hearing, and at all times was greatly interested in her friends and neighbors welfare.
In her going away she leaves to mourn the above named children, 10 grandchildren, Mrs. Myrt Tindall, Mrs. Floe McMurry, Mrs. Nellie Collins, Gaylord Bentley, Willard Warden. Byrl Warden, Mrs. Alma Snowberger, Mrs. Mildred Null, Misses Mabel and Hazel Wygal, and four great grandchildren, Verla Casteel, "Billy," Virginia Ann and John Arthur Snowberger, and many (unreadable.
Funeral services were conducted from the Methodist church, Thursday at 2 p. m. by the pastor, Rev. P. F. Newton. A quartette composed of Mrs. M. L. Bentley, Mrs. H. J. Beedle, W. A. Conn, and Rev. P. F. Newton sang "Rock of Ages," "Face to Face" and "Unclouded Day."
