Thursday, November 15, 2007Our beloved mother ended her earthly journey of 92 years, eleven months and 25 days at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, November 13, 2007 at Fleur Heights Care Center. Her family will receive friends for a memorial visitation from 3 to 6 p.m., Friday, November 16 at Iles Funeral Homes-Dunn’s Chapel.
Elizabeth was born to Melville and Merle Montgomery in Shellsburg, IA then moved to and was raised in Missouri Valley, IA.
Her life’s work spanned from a movie usher in her teens (her love of movies was passed along to all her offspring) to building air planes during the Great War and on to becoming a beautician. She ran her own shop in Clarinda, IA where she raised three children, Connie (Lovell), Karen (Graziano) and Stephen. She later worked as an instructor at the Iowa School of Beauty and was house mother at Iowa Family Services. She loved to cook, have large family dinners, quilt and take long walks on a brisk morning. She took adventurous drives in the country that found her lost; she always said the fun part was “finding your way home.”
She has now “found her way home: with her parents; two brothers, James and Richard Montgomery; and granddaughter, Nanette Christensen.
She will be missed by her three children; son-in-law, Louis Graziano; nephew Jim Montgomery; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Her family wishes to extend special thanks to the staff of Fleur Heights and Iowa Hospice for all the loving care given Elizabeth.
Memorial contributions in her memory are being directed to Iowa Hospice..
