Clara A. Post, 84, died Friday, January 9, 2004 at Mercy Capitol Medical Center from complications of surgery. Funeral services will be 1 p.m., Monday, January 12 at Dunn’s Funeral Home. Burial will be at North McDonald Cemetery in Madison County.

Clara was born in Madison County and lived most of her adult life in Des Moines. She was a teacher at Norwalk, Park Avenue and Studebaker Schools before retiring in 1983. She was a member of Planned Parenthood, Precinct Chairperson for the Iowa Democratic Party, and several professional education associations. She enjoyed supporting community theater, yardwork, and playing cards with friends. Clara was an excellent seamstress and was a published poet.

She is survived by her daughter, Rosalea Stanton of Pleasant Hill; son, Robert “Tony” Post of Des Moines; daughter, Rosalinda Post-Lucas and her husband, Rick of Springfield, IL; six grandchildren, Ricky Stanton, Dawn Post-Lass, Deanne Payne, Samuel Post III, Tiffany Lucas, Matthew Lucas; eight great-grandchildren, Adam Stanton, Kristina Stanton, James Stanton, Scotty Payne, Billy Payne, Brandon Lass; Winter Rose Post, and Mia Post; and her brother, Clark Peterson of Winterset. She was preceded in death by her sons, Richard Post and Samuel Post, Jr.

Friends may call after 12 p.m., Sunday with the family present from 2 to 4 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Planned Parenthood of Iowa or Living History Farms.
