Joe Rua, 81, of Ames died of pancreatic cancer Thursday at Israel Family Hospice House there. The body was cremated, and memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Ames, of which he was a member. Burial of the cremains will be at a later date.

Mr. Rua was born in Des Moines and had lived in Ames for more than 25 years. He had worked for Radio Trade and the Ames Lab before retiring. He most recently had worked part-time for Heartland Senior Services, Green Hills Retirement Community, the Ames school system and Kmart. He was an Army Air Forces veteran of World War II and a member of Knights of Columbus and American Legion. He enjoyed camping and golfing.

He is survived by his wife, Patty; a daughter, Linda Hamilton of Des Moines; three stepchildren, Steve Ernest of Story City, Cay Sills of Stoughton, Wis., and John Roy Ernest of Red Cliff, Colo.; two grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; and four great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Arlene.

Friends may call from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Heartland Senior Day Care Center or his church. Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames is handling arrangements.
