Isaac Manchester Ward was born in Robinson, Ills., Jan. 20, 1850 and died at this home in Norcatur, Ks., January 28, 1922, aged 71 years, 11 months and 29 days.
In the year of 1860 he moved with his parents to Story County, Iowa, then to Madison County, that state in 1867, and in 1879 he came to Norton County, Ks., taking up a homestead 1 1/2 miles east of Norcatur, where he resided with his family until 1914, when they moved to Norcatur.
Mr. Ward knew all the early day trials of the pioneer, and saw much of the ups and downs of this country, did much in an early day to help locate settlers and assist in finding a home for new comers, and was always a friend to be depended upon in every time of need.
He was married March 2, 1881, to Sarah Catherine Reager, at Winterset, Iowa and nine children, two of whom, Floyd K. and Emma C. died in infancy.
Those living are Isaac Bert of Arizona, Cloyd E. of Denver, Co., Walter W., Clarence, Leo, and Earl V., Mrs. Mae Sebaugh and Mrs. Bessie Canfield, all of Norcatur. These, together and a wife, three brothers, Orval of Bucklin, Ks., and Henry and R. F. Ward of Norcatur, one sister, Mrs. Eva Lake, of Escalon, Ca., and seventeen grandchildren, are left to mourn his loss.
Funeral services were held from the M. E. Church on Sunday afternoon, by Rev. Bethel Cook and interment in the Norcatur Cemetery.
