Albert Stiffler, “Allie,” who left Winterset with his father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Stiffler, twenty years ago to live in Salem, Oregon, was killed on October 8, by falling from a scaffold.

He was born in Winterset, grew up here and worked with George Garner for many years. He was a likeable man and was a valuable Winterset citizen. His widow, who was Vernie Price, survives him.

The Oregon Statesman says: A. C. Stiffler, 67, died at his residence October ninth from injuries sustained in a fall from the scaffolding around the Knight Memorial church that afternoon. He was a resident of Salem for 20 years and highly respected.

His injuries were at first not thought ot be serious and he was taken to his home for treatment where he died within a few hours. Fellow workmen said that Stiffler landed on the back of his head.

He is survived by two sons, Roy, of Salem, and Merle, of Cheney, Washington; two daughters, Mabel Knapp, of Salem, and Maude Schenk, of Canby; two brothers, Lauren, of Salem, and Roy, of California, and one sister, Mrs. George Larson, of Pratum. Lloyd Stiffler, of Salem, is a nephew.

Stiffler - Albert Clarence Stiffler was born Dec. 18, 1858, and died in Salem, Ore. Friday evening, October 8, 1926.

He left his home following dinner and went to his work. About 4 p.m. he fell backwards from a scaffold about about five or six feet from the ground striking the back of his head on the cement sidewalk. This caused concussion of the brain, and he died that evening without regaining consciousness.

For many years Brother Stiffler was an active and honored member of the Salem church which he had faithfully served as treasurer. He also held other responsible positions in the church.

His works follow him. His unpretentious, kind disposition won him a host of friends as was evidenced by the large attendance at the funeral service and the wealth of floral pieces.

The widow, two sons and two daughters survive our beloved brother.

'They that were ready went into the marriage.' We are all happy in the assurance that our dear brother was ready.
