MICHAEL MONGAN, St. Charles

Michael Ray Mongan, 62, of St Charles, IA passed away on July 15, at his home. He was born Sept 18th, 1948, in Ft Dodge, IA to Dorothy Gano Mongan and Dexter Mongan. From the age of two he was raised by Dorothy Gano Steenblock and Harvey Steenblock in Kanawha, IA. He graduated from Kanawha High School and joined the U.S. Navy after graduation and spent time in Guam, Japan, Philippines, Hawaii, Vietnam and California. While in the Navy he earned the National Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with three bronze stars, Metorious Unit Commendation, and the Republic of Vietnam Medal.

Throughout his years on earth he was passionate about his faith, his family, making a piece of furniture from black walnut and riding his motorcycle with his good friend Roland. To "Monganize" something was his trademark for improving something.

He leaves behind his wife of 41 years. Patricia Taylor Mongan of St. Charles, two sons, Clint (Kelly) Mongan and Joshua (Sarah) Mongan both of St. Charles; four grandchildren, Sadie, Ella, Ethan, and Henry Mongan; two sisters, Susan (Jim) Adams of Webster City, and Brenda Steenblock of Belmond, one brother Ralph Steenblock of Kanawha; his mother-in-law, Ruby Westcott of Fulton, MS, one sister-in-law, Deonne (Raymond) Williams of Fulton, MS, and one brother-in-law, Danny (Rita) Taylor of Olive Branch, MS and one dear friend he met while stationed in Guam, Roland Pierson of Crescent, IA, his church family in Fulton, MS and Osceola, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Steenblock, his father, Dexter Mongan, his step-father, Harvey Steenblock, one sister, Colleen Kaster, and his father-in-law, John Westcott, grandparents Hes and Sophie Gano, Melissa and Walt Mongan.

Memorial services will be at the Church of Christ in Osceola July 19th at 6 p.m. following cremation. No Graveside services will be held. Honorary pallbearers will be Roland Pierson, Lyndell Fikes, Roscoe and Harry Imhoff.
