Johnnie Lathrum, St. Charles

Johnnie LaVerne Lathrum, son of Walter Stephen Lathrum and Carrie Muriel Morse Lathrum was born Turesday, October 8, 1929 near St. Charles, Iowa and passed from this life Friday, June 10, 2011 at Winterset Care Center at 81 years of age.

Johnnie received his education in St. Charles and Patterson, graduating from St. Charles High School in 1947. He then served his country with the United States Army as a Corporal in Germany during the Korean Conflict. He was united in marriage to Patsy Noel on July 14, 1951 in Ozark, Alabama and four children blessed this union.

Johnnie was a farmer all of his life and also served as a U.S. Postal Rural Mail Carrier for 35 years. He was a member of V.F.W. Post #674 in St. Charles and Beaverdale, Rural Letter Carriers Association and Farm Bureau. Johnnie served on the Farm Service Board of Directors from 1974 - 1981 and on the Interstate 35 School Board for two terms.

Those relatives who preceded Johnnie in death were his parents, his daughter, Terri Lynn Lathrum and brothers, Cleo Ray and Wayne Lathrum.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Patsy Lathrum of St. Charles, IA; son, Stephen Lathrum, daughter, Marcia Knutson, and son, Mike Lathrum, all of St. Charles; eight grandchildren, one great-grandson; brother, Donald Lathrum of Gardner, KS, sister, Doris Downs and brother, David Lathrum all of St. Charles, sister-in-law Joyce Lathrum of Johnston; and aunt, Maxine Jensen of Winterset, as well as many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, June 15, 2011 at St. Charles Parish church with interment following at St. Charles cemetery. Visitation was at Kale Funeral Home in Osceola on Tuesday. Memorial contributions may go to St. Charles Parish or to the family for a scholarship at Interstate 35 High School.
