Judith Ann Veasman, 67, passed away Saturday, June 11, 2011 at Bright Kavanagh House in Des Moines after a very long battle with breast cancer and ovarian cancer.
Judy was born January 5, 1944 in Grinnell, IA, the youngest of six children of Harry and Nellie Buttrey. She grew up living on farms in the St. Charles and St. Marys area and later moved to Indianola where she graduated from high school in 1961. She was united in marriage with John Veasman on May 25, 1963. She worked for many years in Des Moines in the insurance industry, initially at IMT Insurance and, for many years, at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Iowa. Most recently she enjoyed working in the garden center at Walmart. She enjoyed music, traveling, caring for her grandson, caring for plants and flowers and working on puzzles. Her favorite pastime was bowling with her friends and daughter and traveling to bowling tournaments.
Judy is survived by her husband of 48 years, John Veasman; children, Shelly Veasman and Vicki Veasman of Indianola and Connie (William) Keller of St. Marys; grandchildren, Richard Veasman and Kylie and Cole Keller; siblings, Juanita Leggett of Des Moines, Larry (Sandie) Buttrey of Indianola and Floyd (Jane) Buttrey of Osceola. She was preceded in death by her parents and by brothers, Lyle Buttrey and Lloyd Buttrey.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 15 at the St. Thomas Aquinas Pastoral Center in Indianola with burial following in the St. Marys Cemetery. Visitation will be held 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 14 at the St. Thomas Aquinas Pastoral Center where family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Online condolences may be made to www.overtonfunerals.com.
