JOHN BLACK, Winterset

John B. Black, 64, of Winterset died May 17, 2011, at the VA Central Iowa Health Care System following an extended illness.

Private family inurnment will be held at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter, Iowa. Arrangements are being handled by Iowa Cremation.

John Bennett Black was born Jan. 12, 1947. He served his country honorably in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a security officer at Aksarben for over 25 years.

He is survived by his brother Claude Black of Seattle, Wash.; his sister Claudia Black of Brownsville, Texas; and close friend Larry Franks of Prole.

JOHN BENNETT BLACK

John B. Black passed away at Veteran's Hospital on May 17, 2011, after a short battle with cancer.

John was born on January 12, 1947, in Modesto, California, and he spent most of his childhood in Manson, Iowa.

John was stationed in Korea when he served in the Army as a canine handler. John worked for 25 years in security at Aksarben in Omaha, Nebraska.

John enjoyed training and showing dogs, writing poetry and photography. He volunteered at the Omaha schools reading with students and was a member of the Lutheran Church in Winterset.

John is survived by his sister, Claudia Black of Brownsville, Texas; brother, Claude A. Black of Bellevue, Washington, and numerous cousins.

John was preceded in death by his father, Claude A. Black; and his aunt and uncle who raised him, Albert and Rose Zeckser.

A private burial will be held in early July 2011, at the Veteran's Cemetery in Van Meter, Iowa.
