Miss Elizabeth Sherry was born in Tippecanoe County, Indiana, January 1st, 1843, her parents being Jesse and Louisa Sherry. Her mother died when she was only 14 months old.

At the early age of 13 years she drove through with her father to Benton County, Iowa, coming all the way in a prairie schooner.

She was married to Mr. George B. Hatfield, at Shellsburg, Benton County, March 22, 1860. To this union were born five sons and one daughter, Scott, Jesse, Garrett, Milton, Memp--- and Rhoda. Jesse and Garrett died in early childhood.

Mr. Hatfield enlisted in the army at the beginning of the Civil War answering the first call that Lincoln made for troops. During the years that he was in the war she made her home with her father.

She moved with her husband to Nebraska in 1870 spending one year in that state but owing to the danger from Indians they moved to southern Kansas where they spent eight years, returning in the fall of 1878.

Her husband preceded her 14 years ago dying May 9, 1907.

Since this time she has made her home for the greater part with her daughter. She has been a sufferer for more than a year due to old age, until she passed away Sabbath morning at 2:00 o’clock.

Mrs. Hatfield united with the Presbyterian church in Earlham, Iowa, 1901 and was a beloved and earnest worker. Later she united with the Congregational Church in Valley Junction.

She leaves to mourn her loss, three sons, one daughter, thirteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
