Nathan A. Males, second son in the family of six children of John M. and Nancy Males, was born in Marion County, Ind., October 25th, 1850.

They moved to Iowa in the fall of 1852, and the next spring settled in Bear Creek neighborhood, where he received his schooling. This makes him one of the oldest residents of this vicinity in which he has seen the virgin prairie changed to model farm homes and prosperous towns.

He spent eight years in business in Ackworth and Milo. He came to Earlham in February of 1893, and has been in the blacksmith and wagon work since that time.

His sickness began about a year ago, during which he has been in a gradual decline. He was offered a home by each of his two brothers, Wm. Males of Milo, and Richard Males of Earlham, and a sister-in-law, his only living relatives, and by his two life long friends, Dan and Julia Jones. He chose to be independent as long as possible. About three weeks ago when in the home of Mr. Jones he became bedfast. Here he received all the care that loving friends and relatives could give. He passed peacefully away at dawn on Sunday morning, October 30th, 1921.

Funeral services were held from the Friends Church Monday, October 31, at 2:30 p.m. Rev. Chas. Lescault officiating.
