ALBERT HILL, Winterset

Albert G. Hill, 83, of Winterset and a former long-time resident of East Peru, died Saturday, March 26, 2011, at Madison County Health Care System in Winterset.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Thursday, March 31, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Winterset. Burial will follow at the Winterset Cemetery. A visitation will be held today (Wednesday, March 30) at Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare in Winterset, with the family to receive guests from 4-8 p.m. A 30-minute Rosary Service will be held at 6 p.m. Memorial contributions may be directed to the family for use at their discretion.

Albert George Jerome Hill, the son of the late Frank Ebberly and Eva Elizabeth (Bindel) Hill, was born in Baker, Kan., on May 13, 1927. Following school Albert served his country in the United States Army. During this time he was stationed at Fort Lewis, Washington, and Camp Pickett, Va. He was married to Angela Steffen at St. John Basilica in Des Moines on Nov. 23, 1963. Albert worked as a lineman for the Missouri Pacific Railroad Company, and as a heavy equipment operator for Penn Dixie Cement and later at Schildberg’s Rock Quarry in Winterset. He was a member of the Winterset St. Joseph Catholic Church, where he was active in bible study, choir, prayer group, and served on the Parish Council. He was a member of the Third Order of St. Francis and a Third Degree Knights of Columbus, as well as a member of the Winterset American Legion.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and seven siblings; and two grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Angela of Winterset; six children, Anthony Hill of Peru, Anna Hill of Marion, Arlene Werner of Hopkinton, Iowa, Rita Coates of Cedar Rapids, Arthur of Carlisle, and Steve of Dubuque; 17 grandchildren; and siblings, Ivan Hill and Alice Marie Climer both of Kansas.
