JUDITH MOORE, North Carolina

Judith Marie Moore, 69, of Waxhaw, NC, died Sunday, March 27, 2011, at Carolinas Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 31, at Matthews United Methodist Church in Matthews, NC, at 11 a.m. Graveside services and burial will be held in Earlham at Penn Center Cemetery on Monday, April 4, at 11 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made in Judy’s name to Hooved Animal Humane Society, 10804 McConnell Road, Woodstock IL 60098.

Judy was born August 18, 1941, in Polk County to Wilma Grace (Lorimor) and Wilbur Leroy Moore, who was overseas fighting in WWII during her birth. She graduated from Earlham High School, and was a 1963 graduate of the University of Iowa, where she was a member of the Alpha Delta Pi Sorority. While in college, she married Richard Harlan Bobenhouse of Earlham. She received her Master of Nursing Degree at the University of Iowa, where she was a nursing instructor, and later a Ph.D. from the University of Iowa. The family lived in many places in Iowa, including Earlham, Newton, Iowa City and Cedar Rapids. She managed the family’s horse business, Bobenhouse Appaloosas, was a teacher naturalist and later President of the Indian Creek Nature Center, President of Squaw Creek Elementary PTA and a 4-H leader. In 2000, Judy moved to North Carolina. There she joined Matthews United Methodist Church and worked at Positive Impact in Union County, NC. Judy was a member of the Waxhaw Women’s Club, volunteered at the Museum of the Waxhaws and established Waxhaw Family Counseling.

She is survived by her two daughters, Sharon Bobenhouse Murrer of Matthews, NC, and Dr. Patricia Lynn Bobenhouse of Waxhaw, NC; one son, Richard Harlan Bobenhouse of Denver, Colo.; a brother, Bruce Moore; four grandchildren, a great-granddaughter and a number of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Wilma and Wilbur Moore and a grandson, Charles Robert Murrer.
