Death Of Old Settler

M. W. Peach died Sunday morning at 2 o'clock at his home on East Court avenue, at the age of 79 years after an extended illness following a stroke of paralysis years ago.

Mr. Peach was born in Ohio and brought to Davis county, Iowa when he was but three weeks of age. He moved to this county in 1859 and enlisted for service in the civil war.

In 1871 he married Miss Laura B. Welsh of Douglas township and moved to Buena Vista county. However, he came back to Madison county in 1894 and lived on his farm in Scott township until 1907 when he moved to his present home in Winterset.

Besides his wife, Mr. Peach leaves to mourn, six children, Effie Gregory and Elsie S. Peach of Winterset, Walter of Pueblo, Colorado, Laura Gregory, Irene Hoots and Alma Souderland, all of Des Moines; a sister, Mrs. G. M. Badden of LaMars, Iowa and a brother, John Peach of California.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 2:30 at the residence by Rev. Jackson E. Giddons and burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.

Mr. Peach has always been a staunch supporter of the republican party and an enthusiastic member of the Grand Army of the Republic. At all times he has been a public spirited man, and in his death Winterset loosed an estimable citizen.
