Sarah James was born in Alexander, Madison county, Indiana in the year of 1838, coming to this county among the early settlers. Departed this life, July 8, 1920 at the age of 81 years, 10 months and 23 days.
She was united in marriage to Levi Smith November 11, 1868, he having preceded her to the home beyond. To this union were born ten children, two dying in infancy. The remaining children were with her at the last.
She united with the United Brethren church in early youth and was true Christian, a faithful wife and a kind and loving mother.
She leaves to mourn her loss eight children, ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; one sister and two brother besides many friends.
Funeral services were held at the home Friday afternoon at 2:30, conducted by Rev. W. J. Stewart.
Interment was at the cemetery northeast of town.
