Mary McGinnis was born October 21, 1853, and died April 12, 1931, at the age of 77 years. She was the oldest child of Alec and Margaret Young McGinnis, truly pioneer people. She lived her entire life in and near St. Charles. Her health was good until the last few years.

She was a member of the Methodist church and attended services as long as her health permitted.

She leaves two sisters, Mrs. Jennie Lamb, with whom she made her home and Mrs. Isabelle Faust; two brothers, James and Alamander, all of this place; John of Birmingham, Alabama, who was unable to come and Emerson, who was not to be located at this time; also many other relatives and friends.

The funeral services were conducted by her pastor, Rev. Mitchell, Wednesday afternoon and she was laid to rest in the St. Charles cemetery.

Those from a distance who came to attend the funeral were Mrs. John McGinness and son John, Mr. and Mrs. Herman McCrea and son Howard of Norwalk, Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Maine and Mrs. C. C. Stiles of Des Moines; Mrs. Lottie Lamb of Indianola and Mrs. Geo. Emmett and son Eldon of Colfax.
