Emily Louise Merriman, daughter of John and Hannah Colclazier, who was born north of Martensdale, on April 29, 1861, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Graham, of Menlo, on March 8, 1928, being 66 years old.

On March 28, 1879, she was united in marriage to Green W. Merriman. The couple moved to the homestead in Warren county, southeast of Bevington, where they made their home until moving to Patterson. It was while there that they joined and were leading members of the Methodist church of Bevington.

To this union twelve children were born. Three died in infancy: Mrs. Minnie Bowman died in 1911, and Merle died in 1918.

Mr. Merriman died at the home in Patterson on July 5, 1925. Seven children survive their parents: Ellsworth, of Council Bluffs; Charles and Carl, of St. Charles: Mrs. Myrtle Mabis, of Glendale, California; Walter of Des Moines; Mrs. Iva Graham, of Menlo, and Frank of Patterson, all of whom could be with their mother in her last moments excepting the daughter from the west. One sister, Mrs. Mary Davis, of Kirkman, and four brothers, Andrew, of Garden City, South Dakota; Clint and L. Z., of Norwalk, and Joe Bell, of Perry, also survive. Mrs. Merriman also leave nineteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

The last illness was long and painful. She was a patient sufferer.

Funeral services were held in the Patterson M. E. church on Sunday afternoon, conducted by the pastor, and burial was made at Mt. Pelier cemetery.
