John D. Martin, of 3021, 48th street, Des Moines, was born in Madison county, February 16, 1870, near Winterset. He attended school and grew to manhood there.

He was an earnest worker in the church. He and Miss Lou Etta Oglesbee joined the First Christian church in the winter of 1891 together, and were joined in matrimony June 3d of that year. To this union were born two sons, Floyd D. and Victor A.

In the year of 1905 they went to Des Moines and made their home at 1528 32nd street for fourteen years. He is survived by his wife, two sons, the two daughters-in-law, Mabelle and Mayme, took the place of daughters they had always longed for, three grandchildren, Dorothy and Helen, daughters of Floyd D., and Victor Jr., son of Victor A., who died in infancy. He also leaves three sisters, Mrs. L. V. Darnall, of Des Moines; Mrs. Elmer Gordon, of Earlham, and Mrs. Convers Lull, of Holyoke, Minnesota, and a host of friends and relatives.

He was a contractor and builder. Many beautiful and substantial edifices have been left showing his life work. He was a member of the University I.O.O.F. lodge and a charter member of the Alpha Rebekah lodge No. 572, later transferring to the Golden Star Rebekah lodge No. 352.

Note: Burial was made in the Glendale Cemetery, Des Moines, Iowa.

JOHN MARTIN, CONTRACTOR IN CITY, IS DEAD

John Daniel Martin, 58 years old, 3021 Forty-eight Street place, died at the Riley school house, Fifty-third street and Urbandale avenue, Friday morning. He had come to the school to register for the coming city election.

Mr. Martin had been a contractor in Des Moines since coming to the city in 1905. He was a member of the University I. O. O. F. and the Rebekah lodge. He is survived by his wife and two sons, Floyd and Victor.

Funeral services will be held at the Lilly funeral establishment at 2 p. m. tomorrow with interment in Glendale cemetery.
