EFFIE MAY RYAN

Effie May Ryan, daughter of Joseph R. and Martha Newell, was born at Muscatine, Iowa, December 7, 1861. When she was eight years of age the family moved onto the farm in Lincoln township, Madison county, Iowa, where they lived for many years. She was married to William Ryan in 1884. To this union three children were born, Ernest, of Los Angeles, California, Eva, who died in 1904 and Ray who passed away in 1922.

They spent the first years of their married life on the home farm in the Ord neighborhood, later moving to Winterset where they have since made their home. She united with the Baptist church early in life, which she attended for many years. She has been very active until the last few months being able to care for the home, which she kept up so beautifully and also doing much to help others.

After several months of suffering she passed away on February 10th, 1926, aged 64 years, 2 months and 3 days. She leaves besides her husband and son, two grand children, two brothers, Newt Newell of Howard, Kansas and Charles Newell of Des Moines.

Services were held at the Baptist church on Friday afternoon, Feb. 12, conducted by Rev. H. H. Hicks, of Nevada and burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
