Jennie Barker, second daughter of Thomas and Brazilia Barker, was born in Montgomery county, Indiana Sept. 3, 1852, and departed this life May 19, 1917, aged 64 years, 3 months and 16 days. When three years of age her parents moved to Madison county and located near Macksburg, where she lived until her marriage to B. F. Ford, Nov. 6, 1879. To this union two children came: Orville of Forest City and Myrtle at home.
When a young girl she was converted and united with the First Baptist church of Macksburg. She has always been a faithful Christian worker, devoted wife and mother, especially interested in home, church and the sick of the neighborhood. A year ago in October she took sick and an operation was necessary and a complication of diseases was the result.
At 9:45 Tuesday, short services were held at the home in Afton, at 10 o'clock at the M. E. church, conducted by Rev. Guest, from the text “Blessed are the dead that die in the Lord” The entire Afton school was closed during the services, as her daughter, Myrtle, teaches in Afton; the eighth grade attending in a body. The floral offerings were many and very beautiful.
She leaves a husband, son and daughter, and two grandchildren, one brother, J. H. Barker of Macksburg; three sisters; Mrs. Bertie Keenie of Macksburg, Mrs. Mary Pierson of Onawa and Mrs. Lou Bridge of Hazelton, Kansas. Interment at the Greenlawn cemetery, Afton.
