Sheldon C. Devereaux, 74, of Winterset died Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2011, in Phoenix, Ariz.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, March 12, at the First United Methodist Church of Winterset where Pastor Beverlee Bell will officiate. A visitation will be held from 2-8 p.m., Friday, March 11, at Ochiltree Funeral Service, where the family will be present to receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Burial will be in the Winterset Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Methodist Church or Cardiac Rehabilitation at the Madison County Health Care System.
Sheldon Corey Devereaux was born Aug. 21, 1936, in rural Kendall County, Ill., the son of Richard Corey and Ora (Hauge) Devereaux. He graduated from Newark High School in Newark, Ill., and married Peggy L. Francis on June 16, 1956, in Sandwich, Ill.
Sheldon worked as a Territory Representative for Kent Feeds for many years, and after he retired he worked an additional 10 years for the Winterset FS delivering diesel fuel. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Lakeview Country Club, where he had served as president. He was also a member of the Winterset Boosters, Lions and Jaycees.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Donna Jean Devereaux and a brother, Donald Devereaux.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy of Winterset; his son, Jeff Devereaux of Ankeny; his daughter, Lorrie Drake of Winterset; his four sisters – Carolyn Wildey of Minooka, Ill., Shirley Dix of Morris, Ill., Ardis Peterson Platteville, Ill., and Alice Olson of Sandwich, Ill.; 6 grandchildren and one great-grandson.
