MURL MERRYMAN, Patterson

Murl Merryman of Patterson, was struck by a bolt of lightning and instantly killed during a thunder storm yesterday afternoon. The young man was working for Henry Willis farm three miles south of Patterson. A thunderstorm came up about 4:30 in the afternoon and he sought shelter under a lone tree that stood in the field. Soon after, the team came to the house and Mr. Willis went to the field and found Merryman's lifeless body under the tree. The electric bolt shattered the tree and passed through his body. Death was instantaneous. The young man was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Green Merryman of Patterson and was about 21 years old.
