Death of Mrs. A. J. Rollstin

Mrs. Mary Ann Rollstin, one of the oldest residents of Winterset, died last Thursday, January 12th, at the home of O. D. Rollstin, on West Filmore street. Mrs. Rollstin was past 89 years of age and had been in poor health for over a year. In the fall of 1926, she went to Aurora, Nebraska, to visit her son, and while there she became ill with the flu, and her condition did not improve. She was able to be brought to Winterset last June, and since that time she has been at the P. G. Rollstin and O. D. Rollstin homes.

Mrs. Rollstin, who was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James James, was born in Indiana, in 1838. When she was 16 years of age, she came with her parents to Iowa. She was married to Andrew J. Rollstin on Feb. 2, 1859, who died in 1916. Mrs. Rollstin is survived by four sons and one sister: J. E., Aurora, Nebraska; L. W. of Loveland, Colorado, and the two sons in Winterset. The sister, Mrs. S. M. Harrell, resides in Hansen, Nebraska.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. W. C. Porter at the Baptist church Friday afternoon, January 13, at 2 o’clock, and burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.

Obituary

Mary Ann James, daughter of James and Mary James, was born September 25, 1838 in Madison county, Indiana. At the age of 16 she came to Madison county, Iowa where she resided until her death January 12, 1928 at the age of 89 years, 3 months and 17 days.

She was united in marriage to Andrew J. Rollstin on February 2, 1859. Mr. Rollstin preceded her in death January 9, 1916. To them were born five sons and two daughters. Four sons and one sister survive her: Mrs. S. M. Harrell, Hansen, Nebraska; J. E. Rollstin, Aurora, Nebraska; L. W. Rollstin, Loveland, Colorado, and O. D. and P. G. Rollstin, of Winterset. There are ten grand children and eight great grandchildren. These with a large number of devoted friends miss her greatly.

Mrs. Rollstin was raised in a godly home and in early womanhood professed her faith in Christ. She ardently served Him till her death. She united with the Baptist church and lovingly supported it all her life and delighted in the fellowship of all God’s children. All of her children walk in the faith of their mother. One son after sixteen years of missionary service in Japan passed before to await her in glory.
