Death of Mrs. Lydia Hamilton

Mrs. Lydia Hamilton, who has been ill with pneumonia, for the past four weeks, died Wednesday morning, January 18th, between seven and eight o’clock, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Billie Maxwell. Mrs. Hamilton was the second aged lady of Winterset, to die during the past week. She was 83 years of age.

Mrs. Hamilton, who was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Freeman, was born in Elgin, Illinois, in 1844. Her mother died when she was a child and she was raised by her grandparents. When she was 22 years of age she was married to John Hamilton, and they came to Winterset to make their home. Mr. Hamilton died thirteen years ago and since that time Mrs. Hamilton has lived with the Maxwells.

Last summer, Mrs. Hamilton visited her daughter, Mrs. Pearl Niblo, in Huron, South Dakota, but shortly after her health began to fail, and she has not been well since then.

Funeral services will be conducted by Rev. F. Clare McCallon at the Church of Christ, Friday, January 20th, and burial will be made in the Winterset cemetery.

Mrs. Hamilton is survived by four children, Mrs. Edith Tilton, of Des Moines, Mrs. Pearl Niblo, of Huron, South Dakota, Hayes Hamilton, of Pitzer, and Mrs. Maxwell of Winterset.

Mrs. John Hamilton

Mrs. John Hamilton died Wednesday morning at 7:40 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. W. H. Maxwell. She was 83 years old and her death followed a prolonged illness.

Mrs. Hamilton was a native of Illinois where she was born August 23, 1844. She was married to Mr. Hamilton in Barrington, Illinois February 1, 1866 and came to Madison county in 1868. Mr. Hamilton died at their home in Winterset August 31, 1914.

She was the mother of four children, four of whom are living, Mrs. Maxwell, Mrs. Edith Tilton, of des Moines; Mrs. Pearl Niblo, of Huron, South Dakota; Hayse Hamilton, of near Pitzer.

Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at the Church of Christ conducted by the rev. F. Clare McCallon. Burial will be in the Winterset cemetery.
