Death of Mrs. B. F. Myers

Mrs. Benjamin F. Myers, after several months illness, passed away at her home in Winterset, on December 29th, at the age of 79 years and 23 days.

Mrs. Myers’ parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph K. Evans, moved to Madison county in 1848. When a child Mrs. Myers attended Winterset’s earliest schools, later moving to Douglas township. Six years ago, she and her husband, a justice of the peace, moved to Winterset.

She leaves besides her husband and a daughter, Mrs. Grace Gattenby, of Macksburg, four grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday from the United Presbyterian church by the Rev. A. R. Weed, with Rev. W. C. Porter assisting.

Elizabeth, daughter of Joseph K. and Amanda Smith Evans, was born near Winterset, Iowa, December 6th, 1848. She was the third white child born in Madison county.

Her parents came to Winterset early in 1848 and she was born the same year. Her father practiced medicine and was the first treasurer of the county and later became sheriff. She was the eldest of five children and the last surviving member of the family. As a child she went to Winterset’s earliest school and later lived in Douglas township.

She was married to Benjamin Myers, February 10, 1872. Two children were born to them, Frank, who died from a threshing machine engine explosion in 1910, and one daughter, Mrs. Grace Gattenby, of near Macksburg.

They made their home for many years on North Branch, moving from there to Webster township in 1888, where they lived until they moved to Winterset six years ago. Mrs. Myers was converted and united with the United Brethren church when a young woman and remained a faithful Christian, ever using her influence for Christ.

She was known and loved for her neighborly kindness, being always ready to help in time of sickness or need. After several months of illness she passed away at her home in Winterset on December 29, 1927, aged 79 years and 23 days.

She leaves besides her husband and daughter, four grandchildren and three great grandchildren and many friends.
