Dexter, Iowa

Walter Edgar Roberts, son of Joe and Mattie Roberts was born in Madison County, Iowa, February 4th, 1907, and after a lingering illness, passed away at the Dexter Clinic Hospital on August 11, 1961 at the age of 54 years and 6 months and 7 days.

Walter was baptized in the Methodist faith and as a young boy joined the Methodist church, where he has been a faithful member, serving as a Steward and Trustee on the Official Board.

On February 23, 1935, Walter was joined in Holy wedlock to Zelda Daugherty. This union was blessed with one son, Lyle.

Except for 3 years spent at Ellsworth, most of his entire life has been spent in the Adel-Dexter community.

Walter is survived by his wife Zelda, his son Lyle, his daughter-in-law Mary and one grandson, Jay Brandon, two sisters, Elva (Mrs. David Wright) of Adel and Mabel (Mrs. Oscar Norman) of Des Moines, one brother Norman Roberts of Dallas Center, also several nieces and nephews and other relatives.

Preceding him in death were his parents and his sister, Ruby, Mrs. Richard Clausen.

Walter lived his life well, putting everything he had into the race, the fight, the test. He had long had the habit of faith, of hope and of love.

We may be sure that when the last hour came to him “Heaven with love abrim, did not seem strange to him.”

Note: Burial was made in the Dexter cemetery.
