Alfred Franklin Fett was born April 15, 1875, in Madison county, on a farm south of Dexter, Iowa. His parents were Phillip and Barbara Fett. In his infancy he was baptized in the Lutheran faith. When he was six years old he moved with his parents to Adair where he was received into communicant membership with the Lutheran church by the rite of confirmation in St. John’s church, near Adair.

Grown to manhood, he engaged in farming for many years around Adair. Then he moved to Vivian, South Dakota where he continued his farming operations. In the year 1940 he returned to Dexter to live the years of his retirement. In the month of June, 1950, shortly after the opening of the Lutheran Home for the Aged at Vinton, he decided to spend the closing years of his life in that institution. There he departed this life on Friday, October 2 at the age of 78 years, 5 months and 16 days. Death was caused by an apoplectic stroke.

The deceased did not enter the estate of holy matrimony. The surviving members of his family are two brothers, Jacob Fett of Plankington, South Dakota and John Fett of Sioux City; and one sister, Mrs. Mary Petri of Dexter.

His funeral service was held in Zion Lutheran Church of Dexter, with Rev. A. C. Weber officiating, Mrs. Eugene Martens and Mrs. Paul Clausen sang appropriate funeral hymns. Pallbearers were Adolf Jobst, Bert Jobst, Henry Benz, Charles Scar, Clarence Martens and Grant Martens. The body was laid to rest in Immanuel Lutheran cemetery, Adair. Roy Evans was the funeral director.
