WILLIAM McELROY

William McElroy was born in County Monaghan, Ireland, December 23, 1833 and died January 22, 1917 at his home in Winterset on North 4th Avenue, age 83 years and one month. He was married to Bridget Rafferty in Rock Island, Illinois, August l6, 1870. To this union were born three children, one daughter, Mary Kathryn, dying at the age of two and one half years.

Those left to mourn his departure are his life companion, one son and one daughter, Frank and Rosa McElroy of this city.

He came to America when quite young, took up farming as his adoption, from which he has been quite successful. He came to Iowa in the year 1880, to his farm which he purchased in Harrison township Adair county, Iowa, where he remained 27 years, before he moved to Madison county to his farm which he purchased six miles north of Lorimor, where he remained four years. Growing old and broken in health he moved to Winterset to his present home to remain the rest of his declining years.

The funeral was held at St. Joseph's Catholic church, in which church he was a faithful member. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Father White, pastor of his church, and his remains laid to rest in the Rock City cemetery.
