Wilbur Lloyd Speer, son of Lloyd and Cora Marston Speer, was born in Madison county, Iowa, December 4, 1910. All of his life was spent in Penn Township of this county.

He was baptized in infancy and joined the Penn Center Methodist Church in his youth. He was also a member of the I.O.O.F. Lodge for the last sixteen years. He attended local schools of the community and entered into farming as soon as he was able to do so, which occupation he pursued the rest of his life. He was known as a good farmer, a good neighbor, and a devoted husband and father.

On November 6, 1932, he was united in marriage with Mabel Smith, and to this union was born one daughter, Martha.

He was preceded in death by his father, and leaves to mourn his passing wife, Mable, his daughter, Mrs. James Clein (Martha), of Norwalk, Iowa; his mother, Mrs. Cora Speer, of Dexter, Iowa; three grandchildren; a brother, DeLoss Speer of Spencer, Iowa; four sisters: Mrs. Alice Bosley of Winterset, Iowa, Mrs. Verne Higgens (Leone) of Stuart, Iowa, Mrs. Willard Payton (Lucile) of Des Moines, Iowa, Mrs. Charles Rowell (Mildred) of Salt Lake City, Utah, and a number of nieces and nephews.
