Edward Scar passed away at his home in Dexter early Saturday morning, Feb. 22, after being bedfast for over 6 years. Mr. Scar had endeared himself not only to members of his family but to all those with whom he came in contact during his lifetime here, and his going will leave a vacancy not easy to fill. He had attained the age of 93 years, 9 months and 4 days.

Edward Scar was born in Holmes county, Ohio, on May 18, 1847. He was the son of Adam A. Scar and Margaret Stoll Scar. He lived in Ohio until 1877 when he came to Penn township, where he was a successful farmer for many years.

On Feb. 6, 1879 he was united in marriage to Anna Elizabeth Fett. To this union four sons and two daughters were born. They are Elmer, Will, Charles, Fred, Mrs. Adolph Jobst and Mrs. John Willrich, all of whom live in this community.

After a long and useful life at his chosen work, he and his wife retired to a home in Dexter in 1922. His wife preceded him in death, succumbing on July 20, 1933. He continued to live in his home in Dexter under the watchful and loving care of his children.

He leaves to mourn his loss six children, their wives and husbands, one sister, Carolyn Frey of Webster, Ohio; fourteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren, besides many other relatives and friends. The large number attending his funeral speaks eloquently of the respect and esteem in which he was held.

Funeral services were held at 2:30 o’clock Tuesday, Feb. 25, at the Dexter Lutheran church, of which Mr. Scar was a charter member. Burial was made at the Penn Center cemetery. Rev. Kurt Daib, pastor of the Dexter church, conducted the services.
