Death of John T. Williams

John T. Williams, a resident of this county for more than 60 years, died at home near Winterset on Friday of last week at the age of sixty-five.

Mr. Williams, who was the eldest son of the late Leonard Williams, came with his parents to a farm south of De Soto when four years old. Since that time he has resided in Madison county where he had a wide circle of friends and was highly respected as a citizen of exemplary character and good intelligence.

John T. Williams, son of Leonard and Elvarine Williams, was born January 24, 1862 in Adams county, Illinois. He came with his parents to Iowa in 1866 and located near De Soto, Madison county, where he grew to manhood. When about seventeen years of age, he united with the Church of Christ in De Soto. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, having joined the order in Van Meter in 1902.

He was married February 19, 1896 to Miss Ethel Anderson, of De Soto, and to this union were born four children: Marie, who died in infancy; George, of Davenport; Mrs. Mabel Burger, Alta, and Earl, who resides at home.

Mr. Williams and his family continued to live near De Soto until 1907 when they moved to Douglas township, in the Worthington neighborhood. In 1920 they moved to their present farm home near Winterset where he resided until the day of his death.

He is survived by his wife and three children, four brothers, A. V., of Scotts Bluffs, Nebraska; E. M., of Kansas City; A. A. of San Juan, Texas, and J. E., of Winterset; two sisters, Mrs. Trulla Hutchins, Van Meter and May J. Howell, Ontario, California, and three grandchildren, Gerald Williams, August Burger Jr., and Ardis Jean Burger.

Funeral services were held Monday from the Church of Christ at one o’clock with Rev. McCallon officiating. Interment in the De Soto cemetery.
